Lot 169 |
| A late 19th century 14 inch CLC roundhead clock in ex-station condition in an ebonised mahogany case. Used in Hunts Cross Booking Office originally also driving a slave dial on the platform. Overall height: 17½". The two piece dial surround containing a replaced clip-in spun brass bezel. The box with original tip-up side door, bottom door replaced by a metal flap. Backboard split and containing a hole through which the slave drive passed. The left side bearing a BR (M) oval brass number plate stamped 18328. The dial with minor damage and written 18328 rather crudely over the shadow of W. McFerran, Victoria St., Manchester and a rubbed area where CLC and the company’s reference number were probably written. This is a typical McFerran clock; he was a regular supplier to the MS&L and associated companies such as the CLC. Substantial, rather dirty, chain fusee movement held between tapered plates and with the drive for a slave. Complete with replaced pendulum and winder. Further notes on line. £400-600 |
