| Lot 11 | Smokeboxes48266A smokebox numberplate, 48266, from a Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 24746, in March 1942 for the War Department, WD No 551. Loaned new to the LMS, it was returned to the WD in June 1943 and taken into LMS stock the following December, becoming LMS 8266 and BR 48266. Allocated first to Normanton and later Wellingborough, Holbeck, Nottingham, Leicester, Burton, Agecroft and Lostock Hall from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 17 June 1967 and sold for scrap to J. McWilliam at Shettleston on 24 August 1967. Ex loco condition. £300-500 |
