Cabside Numberplates

SAR, E11, 1E
A South African Railways cabside numberplate, E11, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 1E Bo-Bo electric locomotive designed by Metropolitan-Vickers and built by the Swiss Locomotive & Machine Works, Works No 2885, at Winterthur in 1923, one of the first batch of a class which eventually numbered 172 locos. Most were withdrawn around 1990. Cast brass, 20½"x14½", the front repainted. £100-200
 This lot sold for £190 to bidder number 7289.
