Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 262, Auction Lot 381
Lot 381 A smokebox numberplate, 3814, from a GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in March 1940. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948, its later sheds included Southall, Oxford, Severn Tunnel Junction and Didcot from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 26 December 1964 and sold for scrap to Woodham Bros at Barry on 11 February 1965. Saved for preservation, it is currently undergoing restoration at the Llangollen Railway. The front background repainted. £250-400
