Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 253, Auction Lot 430
Lot 430 A nameplate CROXLEY originally carried by Peckett No 770 of 1899, a standard gauge 0-4-0ST supplied new to John Dickinson & Co, Croxley Green Paper Mills, Hertfordshire. When this locomotive was scrapped in 1937 the nameplates were transferred to an Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 fireless locomotive, works number 1434 of 1915. This had been supplied new to the Ministry of Munitions at Queensferry, Flint and acquired by John Dickinson for work at Croxley Green in late 1923 or early 1924. It was scrapped in June 1962. Included in this Lot is a worksplate, ANDREW BARCLAY, 2049 of 1937, from another 0-4-0 fireless locomotive purchased new by John Dickinson in 1937 and scrapped in April 1967. The nameplate, length 30", the worksplate 16¾"x11½", the fronts repainted, the two displayed on a wooden mount. (2) £700-1000
