| Lot 461 | A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1557, 4AR, from a SAR 3ft 6ins gauge 4-8-2 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 20231, in 1913. The Class 4A locos were an improved version of the Cape Government Railways Class 4 built by NBL in 1911. All were withdrawn from the Reef, where they had spent most of their working lives performing a wide variety of duties, in 1974. Cast brass, 19¾"x14", in ex loco condition. £350-500 |
