| Lot 283 | A worksplate, VULCAN, 6050, 1953, from a 5ft 3ins gauge Victorian Railways Class J 2-8-0 No 504. Fifty were built but they were overtaken by modernisation and by the late 1960s were largely relegated to shunting at various country yards with many losing their cowcatchers and gaining shunter's steps on the tender sides. The last of the Class was withdrawn in 1972 and eleven have been preserved. Cast brass, 9"x5¼", the front lightly cleaned. £150-250 |
