A smokebox numberplate, 48712, from a Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 built to LNER order by the Southern Railway at Brighton in July 1944, becoming LNER O6 Class No 7658 and allocated to Heaton. It was renumbered 3107 in 1946 and 3507 in March 1947 and, on transfer to the LMS in October 1947, became their 8712 and BR 48712 the following year. It spent most of its working life at Buxton before moving in 1963 to Carnforth and later Rose Grove from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 10 June 1967 and sold for scrap to J. McWilliam at Shettleston on 24 August 1967. Ex loco condition. £300-500 |
