Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 7 March 2020
Lot 49 |
A nameplate, CITY OF WINCHESTER, from the GWR 3700 City Class 4-4-0 No 3441 built at Swindon in May 1903 and renumbered 3718 in 1912. One of ten locos named after cities served by the GWR, it was a sister engine of the preserved City of Truro. It was the first of its class to be withdrawn in October 1927, so a remarkable survivor. This is the right hand plate, the top of the beading pin-punched R. Totally ex loco condition, its narrower than standard splasher still has its original paint. £8000-12000 |
| This lot sold for £15500. |
