| Lot 141 | A nameplate, ANTI-AIRCRAFT COMMAND, together with its badge depicting a black bow and arrow, from the Southern Railway Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 No 21C149 built at Brighton in December 1946, becoming BR 34049, one of the class to retain its original air smoothed casing to the end. Allocated new to Salisbury where it spent almost all its working life with brief spells at Nine Elms and Exmouth Junction, although officially unallocated when withdrawn in the week ending 7 December 1963. It was cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 6 June 1964. This, the first of Bulleid's Battle of Britain Class, was the only one with army connections, being named after a British Army Command of the Second World War. The nameplate is cast brass, length 71¼", the front repainted. £30000-35000 |
