A smokebox numberplate, 90581, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 4942, in October 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77126. Loaned new to the LNER, it returned to the WD in November 1944 and was stored until purchased by BR in December 1949 and allocated to Wakefield where, with the exception of five months at Sowerby Bridge in 1953, it remained until withdrawal on 24 November 1964. It was cut up at Darlington Works. The front repainted. £300-400 |
