A smokebox numberplate 5049 from the GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in April 1936 and named DENBIGH CASTLE but renamed EARL OF PLYMOUTH in August 1937 when the GWR decided to transfer the Earl names originally allotted to 4-4-0s of the 3200 Class to Castle Class engines. Allocated to Cardiff Canton by January 1948 and later Laira, Newton Abbot, Bristol Bath Road and St Philips Marsh from where it was withdrawn on 22 March 1963 and sold to Cashmores at Newport. In ex loco condition. £1500-1800 |
