Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 271, Auction Lot 386
Lot 386 A worksplate, LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, No 1842, DONCASTER, 1936, REBUILT 1944, from the LNER P2 Class 2-8-2 No 2006 built at Doncaster in September 1936, one of a class of six Mikados designed specifically for working the severely graded main line from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. All were given Scottish themed names, No 2006 being named WOLF OF BADENOCH after Sir Alexander Stewart, the Earl of Buchan, who earned this nickname by his harrowing raids on the bishopric of Moray. Allocated new to Haymarket, it moved to Aberdeen Ferryhill in November 1936, returning to Haymarket in October 1942. The whole class were converted to 4-6-2s and re-classified as Class A2/2 in 1943/4, this loco being rebuilt in May 1944. It remained at Haymarket in its new guise until moving south in November 1949 to New England from where it was withdrawn on 4 April 1961 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Fully engraved brass, 13¼"x7¾", with cast rebuild plate, the front lightly polished, the back stamped 506. £8000-9000
