A nameplate, THE TERRITORIAL ARMY 1908-1958, from a BR Standard Britannia Class 7 4-6-2 No 70048 built at Crewe in 1954 and named by the Duke of Norfolk at a ceremony at Euston station on 22 July 1958 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the TA. Allocated new to Holyhead on 8 July 1954, where it spent its first five years, its later sheds included Newton Heath, Neasden, Annesley and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 6 May 1967 and despatched for scrap to J.McWilliam at Shettleston on 12 September 1967 with three other Britannias. Cast aluminium, 65½"x11", the front repainted. £6000-8000 |
