A Southern Railway cabside numberplate 1231, from a South Eastern Railway F Class 4-4-0 No 231 built at Ashford in October 1893, rebuilt by the South Eastern & Chatham Railway and re-classified to F1 Class in July 1907. It became SR 1231 and BR 31231. Allocated to Faversham by January 1948, it moved towards the end of that year to Reading SR from where it was withdrawn on 8 March 1949 and cut up at Ashford Works on 23 July 1951. Cast brass, 13½"x7½", the characters polished otherwise original condition. £800-1200 |
