An early 20th century SECR 12" drop case clock used at Orpington. Overall height: 20". Oak case now veneered in mahogany on all show parts. Curved base with door closed by turn with large brass knob, standard with SECR clocks. Side door with brass number plate inside marked 1372. Box rear stamped 1372 S.E. Bezel replaced. Dial written in normal John Walker/BR(S) style including red Arabic 24 hour markings, railway identifiers rubbed, rear stamped 1732 S.E., probably an error. Chain fusee movement stamped G&B indicating the makers Grimshaw & Baxter and SE&CRy both within cartouches. Movement complete but needs attention. Ex-SR records shows this clock at Orpington, carriage cleaners, later moved to Grove Park, local line platform. Complete with pendulum, bob stamped 1372, winder and copy of entry in records. £500-800 |
