Lot 294 |
A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 7492, REBUILT STRATFORD, 1924, from a Great Eastern Railway Class T26 2-4-0 No 492 which became LNER E4 Class No 7492. It was allotted a new number 7803 in 1942 but this was never carried and it was later renumbered 2786 in 1946 and became BR 62786. The rebuilding referred to on the plate appears to have consisted of fitting a new boiler. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948, it moved to Bury St Edmunds the following year, returning in 1952 to Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 30 July 1956 and subsequently scrapped. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted, brass plugs soldered to bolt holes. £200-350 |
