A nameplate, ANDREW K. McCOSH, from the LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 No 4494 built at Doncaster, Works No 1859, in August 1937 and originally named Osprey but officially renamed at Kings Cross station on 29 October 1942 in honour of the Chairman of the Locomotive Committee of the LNER Board of Directors, one of only five Directors who served all the 25 years of the LNER. Renumbered No 3 in 1946, it became BR 60003. Allocated new to Heaton, it was at Kings Cross by May 1939 and spent the remainder of its working life there except for two very brief stays at Grantham. Withdrawn from Kings Cross on 29 December 1962, it was despatched to Doncaster Works for scrap on 12 January 1963. Cast brass, length 87". (See also next Lot) £15000-20000 |
