A nameplate, DORCHESTER, with its enamel badge depicting the Dorset town's coat-of-arms, from the Southern Railway West Country Class 4-6-2 light pacific No 21C142 built at Brighton in October 1946, becoming BR 34042 and rebuilt without its streamlined casing in January 1959. Allocated new to Exmouth Junction, it later had lengthy spells at Bath on the Somerset & Dorset Joint line and Bournemouth before finishing its days at Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 2 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to J.Buttigieg at Newport on 3 January 1966. Cast brass, length 75", in ex loco condition. £30000-35000 |
