A South African Railways nameplate, VEREENIGING, from a 3ft 6ins gauge Class 15F 4-8-2 No 3051 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25590, in 1946, although it may subsequently have been carried by other locos. This and several other Class 15F and 23 engines were named after various South African cities and towns in accordance with an instruction from the then Minister of Transport. Many were still in service in 1984. Cast brass, 50"x14¾", in ex loco condition, a repair to the right side, not really noticeable from the front. The plate has its sales paperwork. £1000-1500 |
