A nameplate, GUNTON, from a LNER B17 Sandringham Class 4-6-0 No 2808 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23811, in December 1928, renumbered 1608 in 1946, becoming BR 61608. It was named when built after Gunton Hall, south of Cromer, Norfolk, once the residence of Baron Suffield but now converted into individual dwellings. Allocated to Cambridge by January 1948 and later Stratford and Colchester, returning towards the end to Cambridge from where it was withdrawn on 14 March 1960 and cut up at Stratford Works. Cast brass, length 49", in ex loco condition. £4500-6000 |
