Lot 411 |
A nameplate, STANFORD HALL, from the GWR 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 No 5937 built at Swindon in July 1933. Allocated to Old Oak Common by January 1948, it moved in September 1953 to Carmarthen where it spent its remaining years apart from brief spells at Cardiff Canton and Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 9 November 1963 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 18 September 1964. Note: There is no Swindon record as to the origins of the name although there are Halls so named near Stratford-upon-Avon, Lechlade and Lutterworth, the latter being the best known of the three. £5000-7000 |
