Lot 393 |
A late 19th century Caledonian Railway 13", wall-mounted, pine-cased, weight-driven longcase regulator clock. Believed to have been used in Auchenmade Signal Box. Overall height: 57¾" pine case, outside stripped, with circular, forward-sliding hood with top hinged, glazed door (old glass). Trunk with full length panelled door (hinges replaced) and concave moulding to the top supporting the hood (one section replaced). Trunk inner surfaces with the often-found pencil inscriptions by railwaymen in charge of the clock, difficult to read but include dates in the early 20th century and references to Auchretmade and Giffen (next station); would reward hours with good light and magnifier. Dial written McInnes Bros, Glasgow, rubbed. Regulator movement with deadbeat escapement and Harrison’s maintaining power. No slave drive, consistent with signal box use. Complete with ebonised wood rod pendulum with cylindrical brass cased lead bob and cast Iron weight with integral suspension wheel. £700-900 |
