Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 241, Auction Lot 349
Lot 349 A nameplate, THE KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS, from the LMS Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 No 6140, BR 46140, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23635, and allocated new to Crewe North on 8 October 1927. Originally named HECTOR after the 1839 Leicester & Swannington Railway engine, it was renamed on 12 May 1936 after the Regiment formed in 1755. Its later sheds included Edge Hill, Camden, Crewe North, Longsight, Kentish Town, Newton Heath and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 30 October 1965 and despatched for scrap to J. McWilliam at Shettleston on 4 March 1966. Cast brass, double line plate, length 56½", the front repainted. £12000-16000
