A worksplate ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS 7603 of 1949 from a standard gauge 0-6-0ST new in December 1949 to the National Coal Board for use on the South Shields, Marsden & Whitburn Colliery Railway in County Durham. It was fitted with Westinghouse brakes for the passenger service between Whitburn Colliery and Westoe Lane Station until these ceased in November 1953, when the Westinghouse brake gear was removed. The railway system was then incorporated into the NCB Harton Railways and the locomotive continued to work from Whitburn colliery, latterly numbered 6, until transferred to Boldon Colliery in July 1964. It made it final move in July 1968 to Derwenthaugh locomotive shed, Swalwell, where it was scrapped on site in October 1972 by D. Sep. Bowran. Cast brass, 13"x8½", the front repainted. £200-350 |
