A mid to late 19th century SER 12" dial walnut dropcase clock used at Betchworth, in ex-station condition with repairs, overall height 18". The box with damage to veneer on base and drop, and repaired splits to dial surround with strengthening to rear. Two side doors and bottom door lacking cockbead, closed with typical SER latch with large brass knob. Rear of box stamped 456 SE and brass plate with same number inside side door. 12" dial with some rubbing in upper half written BR(S) John Walker 1, South Molton St.. London 456 S.E. Replaced clip-in spun brass bezel. Chain fusee movement, front plate stamped and scratched 456. Complete with pendulum, bob stamped 456, winder and copy of entry in SR clock records showing use in Betchworth signal cabin. £500-800 |
