A nameplate, SIR COLGREVANCE, with KING ARTHUR CLASS appendage below, from a Southern Railway N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 779, BR 30779, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23225, in July 1925, and named after Colgrevance of Gore, a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian Legend. Allocated to Nine Elms by January 1948 and later Eastleigh, Stewarts Lane and Dover, returning in June 1953 to Nine Elms from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 11 July 1959 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 19 September 1959. Cast brass, length 52¼", the front repainted but not skimmed at all, the ex loco back stamped 779. £6000-8000 |
