A worksplate, No 2068, DARLINGTON, 1949, from the Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No 60149, AMADIS, built at Darlington, Works No 2068, in May 1949 and named in December 1950 after the racehorse owned by Lord Falmouth which won the 1909 Doncaster Cup. Allocated new to Grantham on 31 May 1949, it spent its first nine years alternating between there and Kings Cross before moving in September 1958 to Doncaster from where it was withdrawn on 7 June 1964 and sold for scrap to Cox & Danks at Wadsley Bridge. Engraved brass, 12"x6½", the front lightly polished, the number 149 on the back. £1200-1500 |
