A smokebox numberplate, 30783, from a SR N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 783 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23279, in August 1925 and named SIR GILLEMERE after a Knight of the Round Table slain by Sir Launcelot in Arthurian Legend. Allocated to Nine Elms by January 1948 and later Eastleigh and Bournemouth where it spent over nine years with a final brief stay at Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 4 March 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 1 July 1961. Repainted, cast with the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle in the back. £700-1000 |
