A worksplate, SUPER-SENTINEL 5471, from a Super-Sentinel steam waggon of 1924, registered No. HO 6314, and fitted with a dropside body. Supplied new to Fred Dyke, Contractor, Fareham, Hampshire, their No 11. Converted to pneumatic tyres in 1934 and later sold to Fred Goymer, Barking, Essex. Sold in 1944 to James & Son (Grain Merchants) Ltd., Bermondsey, London. Passed to J.W. Hardwick, scrap merchants, Ewell, Surrey in 1955. The plate was purchased from Hardwick's by the vendor on 24 May 1964 for £3. The chassis of the waggon was cut in two, but has since been preserved. Cast brass, 5¼"x10", the front repainted, the back in totally ex vehicle condition. £250-400 |
