A nameplate, BRITISH MONARCH, from the GWR 4000 Star Class 4-6-0 No 4021 built at Swindon in June 1909 and originally named KING EDWARD. When the King Class was introduced in 1927, it was renamed THE BRITISH MONARCH in June of that year but the nameplates were altered without THE later the same year. Allocated in BR days to Oxford from where it was withdrawn on 10 October 1952 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 27 December 1952. £12000-16000 |
