A worksplate, ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS LTD, 7178, 1944, from a standard gauge Austerity type 0-6-0ST built for the War Department, WD No 71524, and delivered in January 1945 to the Ministry of Fuel & Power for loan to The Horden Collieries Ltd, Horden, County Durham, where it carried the number 5. Moved to Bentinck West Hartley Colliery Ltd, Pegswood Colliery, Northumberland in 1946, still on loan from the Ministry of Fuel & Power, still numbered 5. The Colliery passed to the National Coal Board on 1 January 1947 and the locomotive was purchased from the WD in May 1947 when it was moved to Ashington Colliery, Northumberland and given the number 27. Fitted with a Giesl ejector November 1967 and transferred to Shilbottle Colliery, Northumberland in February 1968. In October 1968 it made its final move to Whittle Colliery, Northumberland, where it was scrapped in November 1969. Cast iron, 13"x8½", in ex loco condition. £150-300 |
