Lot 416 |
A late 19th or early 20th century L&SWR 8 inch drop-case mahogany clock in good restored condition. Overall height: 12". One of about 140 of these popular small clocks supplied to the LSWR by John Gaydon of Barnstaple and his successor James Fox for use on the companies far south west lines. Many, including this one, were taken into Western Region care after post-nationalisation boundary changes; it bears a late style BR-W Ivorine number plate marked 5929. No indication of the LSWR number and hence its location in use is unknown. Well executed repairs to side and bottom doors. Dial repainted and written JN. Gaydon Barnstaple. Wire fusee movement. Cast brass bezel with integral sight ring. Complete with pendulum, winder and door key. £1000-1500 |
