An East African Railways locomotive nameplate, MOUNT KILIMANJARO, 19340 FEET, from an EAR Class 59 4-8-2+2-8-4 Beyer Garratt No 5928 built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 7700, in 1955 and named after the highest African mountain. The Class just survived into 1980, by then part of Kenya Railways. Cast brass, length 64", the front repainted. The nameplate is accompanied by its brass cabside and front numberplates, 5928, the one 27½"x8¾", the other 19¾"x6½" and brass EAR letters as attached to the bunker. (4) £4000-6000 |
