A worksplate, BEYER PEACOCK, 7018, 1941, from a LMS Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 built for the War Department to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 438. It was shipped to Middle East Forces in Iran as No 41-179 before moving to Egypt as WD 70438. It returned to the UK in 1948 when it was purchased by BR, becoming 48290. Allocated to Crewe South in the week ending 3 September 1949 and later Willesden, Northampton, Birkenhead, Aintree and Sutton Oak from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 14 August 1965 and sold for scrap to J Buttigieg at Newport. Cast brass, 10"x5¾", the front repainted. £300-400 |
