A nameplate, HAPPY KNIGHT, from the Peppercorn A2 Class 4-6-2 No 60533 built at Doncaster, Works No 2024, in April 1948 and named after the racehorse owned by Mr W. Cooke which won the 1946 2000 Guineas. Always a Southern Area engine, it was allocated new to New England on 8 April 1948 where it spent most of its working life with spells at Copley Hill, Grantham and Kings Cross. Withdrawn from New England on 15 June 1963, it was despatched to Doncaster Works for scrap on 28 August 1963. Cast brass, 65¾", the front repainted. £9000-12000 |
