A nameplate, COUNTY OF CARDIGAN, the left hand side plate from the GWR 1000 County Class 4-6-0 No 1008 built at Swindon in December 1945 and named after the Welsh county in June 1947. After spending its early years at Old Oak Common, it moved in 1952 to Chester and later Penzance, Neyland, Shrewsbury and Swindon from where it was withdrawn on 3 October 1963 and taken for scrap by Cashmores at Newport on 20 August 1964. Length 78½", in ex loco condition. £8000-10000 |
