An early 20th century GWR 12" mahogany drop-case fusee clock of standard GWR style in good condition. Believed to be from the HQ offices at Paddington. Overall height: 28". Dial surround of four-piece construction with replaced clip-in spun bezel. Case marked 1560 B in several places in chalk and pencil. Box with incurved base containing door closed by a spring-loaded ball latch and with a knob and two side doors with wooden latches all typical GWR features. Replaced or reproduction Ivorine number plate GWR 1560 on front of drop. Dial and movement possibly replaced. Dial repainted and written GWR Kay & Co. Makers and marked 1560 B on the rear. Chain fusee movement between screwed rectangular plates. Complete with pendulum and winder. Further notes on line. £800-1200 |
