A nameplate, GALTEE MORE, from a 5ft 3ins gauge Great Northern Railway of Ireland S Class 4-4-0 No 173 built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 5631, in 1913 and named after an Irish mountain. The name was removed by 1925 but reinstated when the loco was completely renewed at Dundalk Works in 1938. On the division of the GNR in October 1958 between the governments of Eire and Northern Ireland No 173 became Ulster Transport Authority No 61. It was withdrawn in 1964 and subsequently scrapped. Engraved brass, length 28¾", in ex loco condition. £4000-6000 |
