A nameplate, DOWNTON HALL, from the 4900 Hall Class 4-6-0 No 4994 built at Swindon in February 1931 and named after the country estate at Stanton Lacy, near Ludlow in Shropshire. Allocated to Reading by January 1948, it moved in February 1953 to Didcot where it spent the remainder of its days until withdrawal on 15 March 1963. It was sold for scrap to Cashmores at Newport on 14 November 1963. See also the next two Lots. £5500-7000 |
