A nameplate, SIR HENRY LE FISE LAKE, with KING ARTHUR CLASS appendage below, from the Southern Railway N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 No 803, BR 30803, built at Eastleigh in November 1926 and named after one of three Knights of the Round Table who, in Arthurian legend, bravely fought an enemy of King Arthur. A long time Ashford engine, it moved in 1958 to Stewarts Lane and the following year to Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 2 September 1961 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 23 September. Cast brass, 52¼" long, the front repainted. The back bears the casting number, E121 and is clearly stamped with the engine number 803. £8000-12000 |
