Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 3 June 2017
Lot 93 |
A locomotive cabside numberplate, C, CHEMIN DE FER KATANGA-DILOLO-LEOPOLDVILLE 409, from a 3ft 6ins gauge 2-8-2 built by Haine St. Pierre, Works No 1631, in 1928, one of a batch of 18 for the Belgian Congo. This railway was incorporated in 1927 to create a new link for Zambian copper to the Benguela Railway's Atlantic ports. Engines from most of the Belgian manufacturers were ordered for the new traffic but numbered in the existing Chemin de Fer Bas-Congo au Katanga's roster. These railways later became the C.F. Kinshasa-Dilolo-Lubumbasi which has long since been dieselised as the SNCF Zaireois. Cast brass, 15¾"x10", in ex loco condition. The plate was rescued by a member of the Canadian Forces following a derailment; it has recently arrived from Canada. £300-500 |
