A worksplate, (LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY Co.), 1794, DONCASTER, 1934, from the LNER A3 Class 4-6-2 No 2504 built in September 1934 and named SANDWICH after the racehorse owned by Lord Rosebery which won the 1931 St Leger. Renumbered 39 in 1946, it became BR 60039. Engraved brass, 13½"x7¾", the wording in brackets filled as was the practice at nationalisation, though still distinct. The front lightly polished, the back stamped 2504 and 39. £2000-2500 |
