A South African Railways cabside numberplate, 1216, 8W, from a Cape Government Railway 3ft 6ins gauge 8th Class 4-8-0 built by Neilson Reid, Works No 6331, in 1903. It became SAR Class 8D No 1216 in 1912. The W suffix was added to the class designation when it was later fitted with a superheated boiler and inside admission piston valves. All were withdrawn by 1972. Cast brass, 19¾"x14", the front repainted. £350-500 |
