A nameplate, DEFIANCE, from the LMS Jubilee Class 4-6-0 No 5728, later BR 45728, built at Crewe in 1936 and named on 7 October 1936 after a Royal Navy vessel used at the time as a torpedo training school at Devonport. Allocated new to Willesden on 7 October 1936, it was at Perth by July 1937 and moved in March 1940 to Kingmoor where it spent most of its working life with brief stays towards the end at Upperby and Agecroft from where it was withdrawn on 15 October 1962 and cut up at Cowlairs Works. Cast brass, 29" long. £8000-10000 |
