A worksplate, DUBS, 4257, 1902, from a Natal Government Railway 3ft 6ins gauge 4-10-2T No 203. It became South African Railways Class H No 280 in 1912 and was subsequently rebuilt as a 4-8-2T and re-classified to Class H2. In their original guise these massive tank engines became known as the Reid ten-wheelers after their designer and were used for shunting in many parts of the country. The last in service were retained until 1977. Cast brass, 13½"x5½", in ex loco condition. £250-400 |
