A smokebox numberplate, 46257, from the (LMS) Princess Coronation Class 8P 4-6-2, CITY OF SALFORD, the last of the Class built at Crewe and allocated new on 19 May 1948 to Camden where it spent ten years before moving to Carlisle Upperby in September 1958 and finally in March 1963 to Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 12 September 1964 and despatched for scrap to West of Scotland Ship breaking at Troon on 1 December 1964. Early in 1956 it was borrowed by the Western Region and allocated to Old Oak Common for three weeks when the King Class were temporarily taken out of service. Ex loco condition. £3500-5000 |
