| Lot 26 | A worksplate, Manning Wardle, 1555, 1902 from a MW Class G 0-6-0ST IC new to Pauling & Co, Contractors, of Uxbridge, on 28 February 1902 as their No 56 NORTHOLT for use on the Northolt Junction-High Wycombe section of the GW/GC Joint line and later used for work on the Limpley Stoke to Camerton branch. It was purchased by the Freshwater, Newport and Yarmouth Railway for use on the Isle of Wight on 4 June 1913. The Railway was taken over by the SR at the 1923 grouping and this loco became W1 in May 1924, painted in Maunsell green. In October 1928 it was named MEDINA with the nameplates attached to the side tanks under the word SOUTHERN. It became Medina Wharf shunter before being withdrawn in June 1932 and a year later was sent to Eastleigh Works to be cut up. The nameplates were removed and fitted to an E1 class 0-6-0T which also took its number W1. Cast brass, 11"x6", in ex loco condition. £1500-2000 |
