A worksplate, LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 1705, DONCASTER, 1928, from the LNER A3 Class 4-6-2 No 2748 built in December 1928 and named COLORADO after the racehorse owned by Lord Derby which won the 1926 2000 Guineas. Renumbered 94 in 1946, it became BR 60094. Although starting its life at Doncaster and Kings Cross, it moved in 1929 to Carlisle Canal, where it worked mainly over the Waverley route, followed by fourteen years at Haymarket before ending its days at St Margarets, Eastfield and St Rollox from where it was withdrawn on 24 February 1964 and sold for scrap to Hendersons at Airdrie. Fully engraved brass. 13½'x7¾", the front lightly polished, original green paint to the rim, the back stamped 2748 and 94. £3000-4000 |
