A nameplate, WELSH GUARDSMAN, from the LMS Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 No 6117, later BR 46117, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23612, in 1927 and named by April 1928 after the guards regiment raised in London in 1915. Allocated new to Crewe North in October 1927, and later Carlisle Upperby and Holyhead before moving in March 1944 to Holbeck where it remained until September 1961. It then moved to Low Moor and Mirfield and finally back to Holbeck from where it was withdrawn on 26 November 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works by 13 December 1963. The front repainted. £10000-12000 |
